About Nurse Practitioners: Nurse Practitioner: A registered nurse who has completed additional training beyond basic nursing education and who provides primary health care services in accordance with state nurse practice laws or statutes. Nurse Practitioner (NPs) are also referred as an ARNP (Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner) or APRN (Advanced Practice Registered Nurse).   • Writing prescriptions and coordinating referrals.
  • Providing education on disease prevention and healthy lifestyles.
  • Performing certain procedures, such as a bone marrow biopsy or lumbar puncture.
