About Nurse Anesthetists: Nurse Anesthetists: A licensed registered nurse with advanced specialty education in anesthesia who, in collaboration with appropriate health care professionals, provides preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative care to patients and assists in management and resuscitation of critical patients in intensive care, coronary care, and emergency situations. Nurse anesthetists are certified following successful completion of credentials and state licensure review and a national examination directed by the Council on Certification of Nurse Anesthetists.
A registered nurse who is qualified by special training to administer anesthesia in collaboration with a physician or dentist and who can assist in the care of patients who are in critical condition.
Nurse Practitioner (NPs) are also referred as an ARNP (Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner) or APRN (Advanced Practice Registered Nurse). Nurse Practitioners have more authority than registered nurses(RNs) and have similar responsibilities to that of a doctor. They can serve as a primary care or specialty care providers and typically focus their care on a specific population such as families, children, or the elderly. NPs can be specialized in various fields like Cardiology, Emergency, Family practice, Geriatrics, Neonatology, Nephrology, Oncology, Pediatrics, Primary care, Psychiatry, School health, Women's health. NPs provides a broad range of health care services, which includes:
  • Taking the person's history, performing a physical exam, and ordering laboratory tests and procedures.
  • Diagnosing, treating, and managing diseases.
  • Writing prescriptions and coordinating referrals.
  • Providing education on disease prevention and healthy lifestyles.
  • Performing certain procedures, such as a bone marrow biopsy or lumbar puncture.
